Mental Health Therapy

Evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to support your unique healing journey.

Therapeutic Approach

As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I offer evidence-based therapeutic services that are grounded in a holistic understanding of mental health. I believe that healing happens within the context of a safe, empathic relationship, and I work collaboratively with you to address your concerns and support your growth.

My approach integrates multiple therapeutic modalities, allowing me to tailor treatment to your specific needs and preferences. I draw from a diverse range of training and experience to provide comprehensive support for various mental health challenges.

Specialized Therapeutic Modalities

Family Systems Work

Family Systems therapy views the family as an emotional unit and uses systems theory to examine the complex interactions within that unit. This approach helps understand how your family dynamics influence your thoughts, behaviors, and emotions.

  • Identify patterns of interaction that may be contributing to difficulties

  • Develop healthier communication and boundary-setting skills

Parts Work & Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy acknowledges that we all have different "parts" or subpersonalities that make up our internal system. This modality helps you develop a relationship with these parts of self and work toward integration and harmony.

  • Identify and understand different parts of yourself

  • Heal wounded or burdened parts

  • Access your core Self that is calm, curious, and compassionate

Attachment-Based Therapy

Attachment-based therapy focuses on the early relationships and bonds that shape how we connect with others throughout our lives. This approach helps understand and heal patterns in relationships that may be causing distress.

  • Heal from attachment wounds

  • Build capacity for healthy, fulfilling relationships

EMDR Trauma Processing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy for trauma that helps the brain process disturbing memories in a way that reduces their emotional charge and allows for integration.

  • Process traumatic memories and reduce distress

  • Develop new insights and perspectives

  • Build resilience and adaptive coping skills

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented therapeutic model that helps resolve trauma symptoms by focusing on bodily sensations and gently releasing trapped energy and tension patterns.

  • Develop greater body awareness and connection to regulate nervous system

  • Release held trauma in the body safely and gradually

  • Build capacity for presence and embodiment

Usui Reiki Healing

Gentle energy healing to restore balance, reduce stress, and support your body's natural healing abilities.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and supports the body's natural healing abilities. As a Reiki Master in the Usui tradition, I channel universal life energy to help restore balance and harmony to your mind, body, and spirit.

The word "Reiki" comes from the Japanese words "rei" (universal) and "ki" (life energy). This universal life energy flows through all living things and is vital to well-being. When this energy is disrupted or blocked, it can lead to physical, emotional, or spiritual imbalances.

During a Reiki session, I serve as a conduit for this healing energy, which flows through my hands to you. The energy is drawn through me, not from me, meaning I don't become depleted in the process. The Reiki energy goes where it's needed most, helping to release blockages, reduce tension, and restore balance.

Benefits of Reiki

Stress Reduction

Reiki promotes deep relaxation, helping to release tension and reduce stress levels. Many clients report feeling a profound sense of peace and calm during and after sessions. Regular Reiki treatments can help manage chronic stress and its physical manifestations.

Energy Balance

By clearing and balancing your energy centers (chakras), Reiki helps restore harmony to your entire system. This balanced energy flow can help address physical, emotional, and spiritual imbalances that may be contributing to discomfort or illness.

Physical Healing Support

While Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatment, it can complement conventional care by supporting your body's natural healing processes. Many people find that Reiki helps accelerate recovery, reduce pain, and alleviate symptoms associated with various health conditions.

Emotional Release

Reiki can help release stored emotions and emotional blockages, facilitating emotional healing. Many clients experience emotional release during sessions, allowing them to process and let go of difficult feelings in a gentle, supported way.

Mental Clarity

By calming the mind and reducing mental chatter, Reiki can enhance mental clarity and focus. Many people report improved decision-making ability, creative thinking, and mental performance following regular Reiki sessions.

Spiritual Connection

For those on a spiritual path, Reiki can facilitate a deeper connection to your higher self, intuition, and spiritual guidance. Many find that Reiki helps them access wisdom, clarity, and a sense of purpose that transcends everyday concerns.

What to Expect in a Reiki Session

Before Your Session

Prior to your first Reiki session, we'll have a brief consultation to discuss your goals, any physical or emotional concerns, and answer any questions you may have. I recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and avoiding heavy meals or alcohol before your session.

During Your Session

You'll lie fully clothed on a comfortable treatment table in a peaceful setting. I'll begin by guiding you through a brief relaxation exercise to help you center and prepare for the session.

During the treatment, I'll place my hands lightly on or just above different areas of your body, following a specific sequence that addresses the major energy centers (chakras). You might feel sensations such as warmth, tingling, pulsing, or a gentle flow of energy. Some people experience visual images, colors, or memories. Others simply feel deeply relaxed or may even fall asleep.

A full Reiki session typically lasts 60 minutes, though you may also book a 30 minute session as a standalone service or to add onto a therapy session.

After Your Session

After the session, you'll have time to rest and integrate the experience before we briefly discuss what you noticed. Many people feel deeply relaxed, peaceful, or energized following Reiki. Occasionally, you might experience a temporary intensification of symptoms as part of the healing process.

I recommend drinking plenty of water, resting if needed, and paying attention to any insights or shifts that emerge in the days following your session. The effects of Reiki are cumulative, so regular sessions can lead to deeper and more lasting benefits.

Reiki and Your Healing Journey

Reiki can be a powerful complement to other healing modalities, including traditional therapy and art therapy. When combined thoughtfully, these approaches can address the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—leading to more comprehensive healing and growth.

Whether you're seeking relief from a specific concern or simply wish to enhance your overall wellbeing, Reiki can be a gentle yet powerful support on your healing journey.

Art as Therapy

Express, explore, and transform through the healing power of creative expression.

The Power of Art in Healing

Art therapy harnesses the innate creative capacity within each of us as a pathway to healing, self-discovery, and growth. As a trained art therapist, I provide a safe, supportive environment where you can express thoughts and feelings that might be difficult to put into words.

The creative process involved in artistic expression helps to resolve conflicts, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem, and achieve insight. You don't need any artistic skill or experience to benefit from art therapy—the focus is on the process of creating and what it reveals, not on making "good" art.

Through various art materials and approaches, we can access different parts of yourself, including those that may be outside of conscious awareness. The artwork created becomes a powerful tool for exploring your inner landscape, recognizing patterns, and developing new perspectives and possibilities.

Benefits of Art Therapy

Emotional Expression

Art provides a way to express and process complex or difficult emotions that may be challenging to verbalize. Through creative expression, you can safely release feelings of anger, grief, fear, or confusion, and begin to make sense of your emotional experiences.

Trauma Processing

Art therapy offers a gentle, indirect way to process traumatic experiences. Creating art can help access traumatic memories stored in non-verbal parts of the brain, allowing for integration and healing without requiring you to recount your trauma narrative directly.

Self-Discovery

The creative process can reveal unconscious thoughts, beliefs, and patterns. Art therapy helps you develop greater self-awareness and insight, uncovering aspects of yourself that may have been hidden or overlooked, and fostering a deeper understanding of your authentic self.

Symbolic Communication

Images and symbols can communicate complex experiences and meanings that words alone cannot capture. Art therapy provides access to the rich language of symbolism, allowing for deeper exploration of your inner world and connections to universal human experiences.

Integrative Healing

Art therapy naturally addresses the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. The creative process engages multiple aspects of yourself simultaneously, fostering integration between cognitive, emotional, sensory, and spiritual dimensions of experience. This integrative approach can lead to more comprehensive healing and growth than approaches that focus primarily on verbal or cognitive processing.

The Art Therapy Process

What to Expect

Art therapy sessions are tailored to your unique needs and goals. A typical session might include:

  • 1: Check-in & Intention Setting

We'll begin by discussing how you're feeling and what you'd like to explore in the session. This helps establish a focus or intention for our work together.

  • 2: Creative Exploration

I'll guide you through a creative process using various art materials and approaches. This might involve responding to a prompt, exploring a specific theme, or engaging in spontaneous creation. No artistic skill is required—the focus is on authentic expression, not technical ability.

  • 3: Reflection & Processing

After creating, we'll spend time with your artwork, exploring what emerges and what it might reveal. I'll provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to reflect on your experience and the meanings that arise from your creative expression.

  • 4: Integration & Closure

We'll conclude by discussing insights gained, connections to your life outside the session, and how to integrate the experience. This might include identifying specific actions or practices to support your continued growth and healing.

Art Materials & Approaches

Different materials and approaches can access different aspects of your experience, and we'll work together to find the ones that best support your therapeutic goals and personal preferences. We may work with a wide range of art materials and approaches to support different types of expression and exploration: drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, clay & sculptural materials, or the medium of your choice.
